About Project

The Cloisters development was split into two phases, one of them being the restoration of the scheduled building, whilst the other phase was the demolition of the non-scheduled building. The scheduled building was converted into a boutique hotel, post restoration. Adjacent to the scheduled building, a new apartment block was constructed. The old block included the addition of another floor using traditional Maltese limestone blocks, whislt the new block was constructed using reinforced concrete elements. The project was a very challenging one structurally, since it involved the construction of a very large transfer slab over a protected old water reservoir, This was achieved without inserting any vertical elements in the reservoir. The structure proved to be very economical.
