The project involves the development of a modern light industrial building with underground parking at Triq San Giljan, Qasam Industrijali, San Gwann, covering a total area of 45,000 sqm. The structure consists of four levels of underground parking, supporting eight floors of industrial space, designed to accommodate a variety of operational needs. SAS Malta was engaged to carry out the structural analysis and design of the building. A detailed review of the design brief was conducted to ensure the structure meets the highest standards of efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and durability. After evaluating several structural schemes, a flat slab system was chosen for its material efficiency, structural performance, and flexibility in internal layouts. This system also provides flat ceilings, simplifying the installation of building services. Seismic design was also a key factor in ensuring long-term safety and stability. The project is now in the final stages of excavation and consolidation. Given the fractured nature of the rock face, advanced rock bolting techniques were implemented alongside shotcrete applications. This method proved to be both cost-effective and structurally reliable, ensuring a stable rock face while optimizing material use. With careful planning and the right engineering solutions, the project is progressing smoothly. The combination of efficient design, structural integrity, and thoughtful execution ensures a high-quality outcome tailored to the needs of the project and client.
