About Project

The structural engineering project involved the challenging task of constructing a large commercial center above an existing one, located in one of Malta’s leading commercial hubs. The design utilized the plasticity of reinforced concrete to achieve optimal structural efficiency, ensuring the new construction was both robust and economical. For the larger slab areas, two-way continuous slabs were employed. This design choice provided enhanced load distribution and structural stability, crucial for supporting the additional weight and usage demands of the expanded center. In other areas, flat slabs were used, offering simplicity in construction and facilitating a more streamlined installation process. The project required meticulous planning and innovative engineering techniques to integrate the new structure seamlessly with the existing building. This approach not only preserved the functionality of the original commercial center during construction but also enhanced its overall capacity and appeal. In summary, the engineering solutions leveraged reinforced concrete’s plasticity and strategic slab design to create a structurally sound and efficient expansion, solidifying the center’s status as a premier commercial destination in Malta.
